Sinz discussed the transference of strong visual processing skills between artificial neural networks and biological ones.&nbsp;<\/p><h4 paraeid=\"{d41b0e28-5303-4f6c-a24e-176116a5870e}{150}\" paraid=\"1956203206\">Fraunhofer covers robotics and GenAI&nbsp;<\/h4><p paraeid=\"{d41b0e28-5303-4f6c-a24e-176116a5870e}{156}\" paraid=\"552509170\">The Cyber\u00a0Valley Research Fund also welcomed two talks from <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fraunhofer.de\" target=\"_blank\">Fraunhofer IPA and Fraunhofer IAO<\/a>. <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/werner-kraus\/?originalSubdomain=de\" target=\"_blank\">Werner Kraus <\/a>(Head of Robot and Assistive Systems and Leader of the AI Innovation Center, Fraunhofer IPA) presented a review of the European Robotics Forum that took place in March 2025 in Stuttgart &ndash; the first time the conference has happened in Germany. <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.iao.fraunhofer.de\/de\/forschung\/forschungsbereiche\/mensch-technik-interaktion\/chandan-kumar.html\" target=\"_blank\">Chandan Kumar<\/a> (Team Leader of Interaction Design and Technologies at Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering IAO) then gave insights on &ldquo;Smart Innovation with LLM-Powered Agents&rdquo;.&nbsp;<\/p><p paraeid=\"{d41b0e28-5303-4f6c-a24e-176116a5870e}{218}\" paraid=\"1446456354\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/cyber-valley.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/content_IMG_0991.jpg\" style=\"width: 1080px; height: 564px;\" title=\"Werner Kraus, Fraunhofer IPA at the Cyber\u00a0Valley Research Fund Symposium. Photo: Cyber\u00a0Valley\" \/><\/p><h4 paraeid=\"{d41b0e28-5303-4f6c-a24e-176116a5870e}{222}\" paraid=\"547257769\">Cyber\u00a0Valley Research Fund Projects &#8211; (Flight) Robotics&nbsp;<\/h4><p paraeid=\"{d41b0e28-5303-4f6c-a24e-176116a5870e}{228}\" paraid=\"1045287110\">Two projects led by <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ifr.uni-stuttgart.de\/institut\/team\/Ahmad-00002\/\" target=\"_blank\">Aamir Ahmad<\/a> (Tenure-track Professor of Flight Robotics and Deputy Director of Research at the Institute of Flight Mechanics and Controls, University of Stuttgart, and Research Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems) came next. Ahmad&rsquo;s first project &ldquo;WildCap &ndash; Autonomous Animal Motion Capture for Wildlife Conservation&rdquo; developed autonomous flying robots that monitor wild animals using onboard sensors and wireless communication. He highlighted that AI methods enable them to detect, track, and interpret behavior, and how they adapt based on monitoring accuracy.&nbsp;<\/p><p paraeid=\"{e3d95796-fd44-4aa2-ba7e-3c11715c198a}{47}\" paraid=\"1226195608\"><a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ifr.uni-stuttgart.de\/institut\/team\/Gall-00002\/\" target=\"_blank\">Christian Gall<\/a> (Research Associate at the University of Stuttgart&rsquo;s Institute of Flight Mechanics and Controls) is part of Ahmad&rsquo;s research group and led the second project &ldquo;Decision Making for Environmental Energy Exploitation with Small Aircraft&rdquo;. Gall introduced a learning approach that permits aircraft to autonomously detect and exploit thermal updrafts.&nbsp;<\/p><h4 paraeid=\"{e3d95796-fd44-4aa2-ba7e-3c11715c198a}{111}\" paraid=\"426247670\">Cyber\u00a0Valley Research Fund Industry Partners&nbsp;<\/h4><p paraeid=\"{e3d95796-fd44-4aa2-ba7e-3c11715c198a}{117}\" paraid=\"181201086\">Four representatives from Cyber\u00a0Valley&rsquo;s industry partners shared their research in the first afternoon session. <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/profdrmohsenkaboli\/?originalSubdomain=de\" target=\"_blank\">Mohsen Kaboli<\/a> (Head of AI, Robotics and Cognitive Vehicle Research at BMW Group, and Professor of Embodied AI, Robotics, and Tactile Intelligence at the Eindhoven University of Technology) spoke about &ldquo;Embodied Interactive Visuo-Tactile Perception and Learning for Robotic Grasp and Manipulation&rdquo;. <a rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dr-maximilian-rabus-258093339\/?originalSubdomain=de\">Maximilian Rabus<\/a> (Product Manager and Data Strategist at Porsche AG) subsequently presented on &ldquo;Data Fuels Performance: Insights into Porsche&rsquo;s Data-Driven Development&rdquo;, followed by <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/dr-alexander-joos-91b647127\/?originalSubdomain=de\" target=\"_blank\">Alexander Joos<\/a> (Senior Vice President of Digital Solutions Powertrain at IAV GmbH) on &ldquo;The Modern Development in the Age of AI&rdquo;.&nbsp;<\/p><h4 paraeid=\"{044af5bc-6523-462f-ad7a-352451886357}{62}\" paraid=\"516729391\">Cyber\u00a0Valley Research Projects from Clusters of Excellence&nbsp;<\/h4><p paraeid=\"{044af5bc-6523-462f-ad7a-352451886357}{70}\" paraid=\"1964081169\">The afternoon continued with a talk from <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tu-dortmund.de\/universitaet\/neuberufene-professorinnen\/prof-paul-christian-buerkner\/\" target=\"_blank\">Paul-Christian B&uuml;rkner<\/a> (Professor of Computational Statistics at TU Dortmund University) on &ldquo;Meta-uncertainty in Bayesian model comparison&rdquo;. He highlighted the methods to quantify meta-uncertainty &ndash; the uncertainty over model probabilities in Bayesian model comparison &ndash; using theory and simulations to better understand the limits of scientific inference.&nbsp;<\/p><p paraeid=\"{044af5bc-6523-462f-ad7a-352451886357}{70}\" paraid=\"1964081169\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/cyber-valley.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/content_IMG_1056.jpg\" style=\"width: 1080px; height: 564px;\" title=\"Michael Sedlmair, University of Stuttgart at the Cyber\u00a0Valley Research Fund Symposium. His research developed a robotic construction system that combines reinforcement learning and logic-geometric programming to autonomously build with irregular, renewable materials like bamboo. The system showcases a sustainable, adaptive approach to low-carbon construction using mobile robots and intelligent material handling.&nbsp;<\/p><h4 paraeid=\"{044af5bc-6523-462f-ad7a-352451886357}{178}\" paraid=\"1679133392\">Cyber\u00a0Valley Research Fund Projects &#8211; Specific research areas&nbsp;<\/h4><p paraeid=\"{044af5bc-6523-462f-ad7a-352451886357}{184}\" paraid=\"657461237\">In the symposium&rsquo;s concluding session, <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vis.uni-stuttgart.de\/team\/Sedlmair-00002\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Sedlmair<\/a> (Professor for Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality, University of Stuttgart) began by exploring how AI can support musical creativity. In &ldquo;InstruData &ndash; Data-Driven Musical Instrument Education&rdquo; he discussed how his research project used AI to augment creative processes through human-centered design.&nbsp;<\/p><p paraeid=\"{044af5bc-6523-462f-ad7a-352451886357}{250}\" paraid=\"131925576\">Next, <a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/uni-tuebingen.de\/fakultaeten\/mathematisch-naturwissenschaftliche-fakultaet\/fachbereiche\/informatik\/lehrstuehle\/cognitive-modeling\/staff\/martin-butz\/\" target=\"_blank\">Martin Butz<\/a> (Professor in Cognitive Modeling, University of T&uuml;bingen) discussed spatiotemporal forecasting models in &ldquo;Neural Generative Weather Forecasting&rdquo;. This project developed deep-learning models for forecasting spatiotemporal phenomena, ranging from local precipitation to global weather patterns. His project, &ldquo;A Scalable Machine Learning Approach to\u202fImproving Human Decision Making&rdquo;, developed computational tools which&nbsp;optimize decision-making strategies that outperform human intuition in areas like education, health, and finance.
