We are currently seeking a highly motivated Researcher (female/male)
a potential PhD candidate researcher position in our “Bioinspired and Bio-mimicking Legged Locomotion” project, with focus on computer simulation of neuro-muscular control of legged locomotion. The core of the project is on muscle driven legged walking and running. The aim is to develop a neuro-muscular model and perform computer simulations. The results will be transferred to and compared with biorobotic models.
starts in March 2019. In case of an outstanding application, we can offer a temporary position starting in fall 2018 until the official start of the project. Salary will be based on previous experience according to a TV-L E13 65% position, or equivalent.
The project is a collaboration between the Dynamic Locomotion Group at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems on the campus Stuttgart in Germany and the Multi-Level Modeling in Motor Control and Rehabilitation Robotics Group at the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research (HIH) at the University of Tübingen, Germany. Both are young and highly motivated research groups. We offer an excellent research infrastructure, national (i.e. with MPI IS, campus Tübingen) and international interdisciplinary cooperation possibilities also with experts from Biology and Biomechanics.

Requirements and core skills
The ideal candidate should have
- A background in biomedical engineering, physics, biophysics, or closely related
- a Masters (or equivalent) degree from a recognized university. Near completion can be considered;
- Prior knowledge in multi body dynamics modeling, dynamical systems, system identification, learning, or optimization, is a plus;
- Proficient programming experience in Matlab, C++, or similar
- Interest in bioinspired locomotion in robots and animals;
- Prior experience with neuro-muscular or musculo-skeletal modeling is a plus;
- Excellent grades and analytical skills;
- Proficient (!) oral and written English skills;
- Outstanding candidates with different backgrounds are encouraged to apply
