Marcel Binz is a Research Scientist and Deputy Head at the Institute for Human-Centered AI at Helmholtz Munich, and Group Leader of the Core Cognition research group at the Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics in Tübingen. His research develops a unified theory of human cognition by translating psychological theories into computational models, combining machine learning, cognitive science, and language modeling. A central contribution is Centaur, a foundation model designed to predict and capture human cognition across diverse experimental tasks. Binz’s work also examines large language models as cognitive models and their implications for science, education, and psychiatry. His Tübingen-based group leadership and prior work at MPI for Biological Cybernetics make him relevant to Cyber Valley’s NeuroAI and human-centered AI ecosystem.
