The Cyber Valley Mission

Cyber Valley was established in 2016 with the mission to advance the research, development, application, and acceptance of artificial intelligence and modern robotics. From the outset, Cyber Valley aimed to bridge excellent basic research with real-world applications, shaping the future of AI in Baden-Württemberg.

From initiative to leading AI Innovation Campus

At its founding, Cyber Valley brought together the Max Planck Society (including the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, MPI-IS), the State of Baden-Württemberg, and the Universities of Stuttgart and Tübingen, along with industry partners Amazon, BMW, Bosch, IAV, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and ZF Friedrichshafen.

The network continued to grow over time, with Fraunhofer joining in 2019, followed by the ELLIS Institute Tübingen and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in 2024.

Today, this collaboration forms the Cyber Valley Innovation Campus–the academic core of Cyber Valley–and anchors a dynamic and innovation ecosystem across the Stuttgart–Tübingen–Karlsruhe region, positioning it as one of Europe’s leading locations for AI and robotics research.

Academic and state partners

Baden-Württemberg is home to world-class research institutions in artificial intelligence (AI). Following the initiative of the Max Planck Society with funding from the state of Baden-Württemberg, several partners came together to create a top location for research and innovation in AI.

The participating academic institutions are the Universities of Stuttgart and Tübingen, Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT), Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems.
