The Biomedical Microsystems group developed innovative devices and microsystems for biomedical applications, integrating actuation, recording, and computation to advance medical procedures. The group focused on tools that collect large amounts of data and learn from it to uncover underlying biological principles. A particular emphasis was placed on creating realistic surgical robot testing and simulation environments using rapid prototyping and augmented reality. Their work was supported by funding from the Vector Foundation.

The group was active until April 2023. Tian Qiu is now Division Head at the German Cancer Research Centre (DKFZ) in Dresden.
