Martin Butz is a Professor for Cognitive Modeling at the University of Tübingen, where he leads research at the intersection of machine learning, cognitive systems, and cognitive science. His work focuses on event-predictive and sensorimotor-grounded cognition, anticipatory behavior, the ideomotor principle, peripersonal space, and the free-energy principle, often using virtual reality and eye tracking to study human cognition. He is a member of the Tübingen AI Center and the International Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems (IMPRS-IS). Butz is highly relevant to Cyber Valley through his Tübingen-based research on predictive, embodied cognitive systems and his contributions to the region’s theoretical foundations for intelligent, adaptive agents.
