Paul-Christian Bürkner is a Professor of Computational Statistics at TU Dortmund University. With an interdisciplinary background in psychology and mathematics, he develops Bayesian methods for uncertainty quantification, prior specification, simulation-based inference, model comparison, and machine-assisted statistical workflows. He is also the lead developer of brms, a widely used R package that enables flexible Bayesian regression and multilevel modeling through Stan. From 2020 to 2023, Bürkner led an independent junior research group for Bayesian Statistics at the University of Stuttgart’s SimTech Cluster of Excellence. He led the Cyber Valley Research Fund project "Meta-Uncertainty in Bayesian Model Comparison", developing methods to quantify uncertainty about the probabilities assigned to competing models—an important foundation for reliable and interpretable AI.
