Gabriele Schweikert is a Principal Investigator in Computational Biology at the University of Dundee and holds a joint appointment with Cyber Valley in Tübingen. Her research uses machine learning to understand molecular processes in living cells, with a particular focus on epigenetics—the mechanisms that determine how cells with identical DNA become specialized cell types. She develops computational methods to analyze complex, high-dimensional epigenomic data, with applications in developmental biology, neuroscience, and cancer research, including leukemia. Schweikert completed her PhD at the Max Planck Institute in Tübingen, working with Bernhard Schölkopf, Detlef Weigel, and Gunnar Rätsch, and later received a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship to develop machine-learning tools for the life sciences. Her joint Dundee–Tübingen role makes her a strong example of Cyber Valley’s international reach and its integration of AI with the life sciences.
