Jonas Geiping is a Research Group Leader at the ELLIS Institute Tübingen and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, where he leads the Safe and Interpretable AI group. With a background in applied mathematics and a PhD in computer science, his research connects deep learning and mathematical optimization, with a particular focus on secure, private, and trustworthy machine learning. His work includes gradient leakage and privacy attacks, federated learning, model robustness, and the optimization principles underlying large-scale AI systems. Geiping is relevant to Cyber Valley through his dual role in Tübingen’s ELLIS Institute and MPI-IS, strengthening the region’s research on safe, interpretable, and privacy-preserving AI.
