Short Bio
Pierre Schumacher is a Research Engineer at Eka Robotics in Cambridge, where he applies reinforcement learning and deep learning to robotic manipulation. He previously completed a joint PhD at the Hertie Institute for Clinical Brain Research and the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems within the International Max Planck Research School for Intelligent Systems. His research combines reinforcement learning, biomechanical modeling, and motor control to enable robust and data-efficient learning in complex, muscle-driven and overactuated robotic systems. His doctoral work, including the DEP-RL project, was supported by the Cyber Valley Research Fund and developed in collaboration with Daniel Häufle and Georg Martius. Schumacher received the first Robotics Institute Germany Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award for this work.
