The Embodied Vision group, led by Jörg Stückler, developed autonomous intelligent systems that learn and improve their perception and action skills through interaction with the environment. A main focus was on learning-based approaches to analyzing image and sensor data. The group worked on methods that allow robots to actively understand dynamic environments from sensor inputs and perform complex tasks such as object handling or autonomous navigation. Beyond image data, the group also incorporated tactile sensors for an artificial sense of touch and inertial sensors analogous to human balance.
The group was active until June 2024. Jörg Stückler has since moved to the University of Augsburg as Professor of Computer Science.
