The Intelligent Tactile Systems group, led by Hyosang Lee and part of the Institute of Smart Sensors (IIS), studies the sensing and perception mechanisms of biological systems to develop artificial tactile systems for contact-rich environments. Conducting interdisciplinary research at both the hardware and software levels, the group works on new materials, sensor design, multiphysics simulation, sensor fabrication, signal processing, and machine learning. Their work aims to create autonomous systems that can recognize contact and leverage their surfaces for manipulation, motion planning, and nonverbal communication. The group’s research is supported by a grant from the Christian Bürkert Foundation.
The group was active until May 2024. Hyosang Lee is now Assistant Professor at Eindhoven University of Technology.
