Caterina De Bacco’s research group “The Physics for Inference and Optimization” combined expertise from physics, mathematics, and statistics to model complex systems composed of many interacting elements, often represented as networks. The group developed mathematically rigorous models to uncover patterns from network data and to optimize system design. Research applications included clustering, anomaly detection, and optimal transport on networks, spanning domains such as social sciences and engineering.
The group was active until 2024. Caterina De Bacco is now Associate Professor at Delft University of Technology.
