Led by Gabriele Schweikert, the Computational Epigenomics group used machine learning to better understand key molecular processes in living cells, with a focus on epigenetic mechanisms, such as what makes a liver cell different from a blood cell, even though all cells share the same genetic code. By developing machine learning techniques for computer-aided gene identification, the group aimed to advance the field of computational epigenomics, which holds significant promise for medical applications. Their work was supported by the Gips-Schüle Foundation.

The group was active until 2023. Gabriele Schweikert is now Senior Lecturer at Dundee University, UK.
