Philipp Müller is a Cyber Valley Max Planck Research Group Leader at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems in Stuttgart, where he leads the Embodied Social Interaction group. His research develops the foundations for socially capable embodied AI by combining multimodal AI, psychology, and human–robot interaction to analyze and respond to complex human behavior, including engagement, emotional expression, and emotion regulation. A key application area is psychiatry, where his work supports clinical diagnostic decision-making and the assessment of patient–therapist relationships. He joined MPI-IS in November 2025 after positions at the University of Stuttgart and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). His group strengthens Cyber Valley’s human-centered AI agenda, connecting machine learning and robotics with psychology, fairness, and socially integrated intelligent systems.
