In the Department of Teaching and Learning with Intelligent Systems and the Interchange Forum for Reflecting on Intelligent Systems at the University of Stuttgart, we combine insights from cognitive psychology, human-machine interaction, and artificial intelligence to address these questions. Our ongoing projects are based on a portfolio of experimental laboratory, field, and online studies, practices in user-centered software development, and modeling and simulation approaches. Our goal is to design and evaluate responsible, user-adaptive, assistive technologies.

We are currently looking for technical support and therefore filling a position as soon as possible for a

Software developer (f/m/d)

to the extent of up to 100%, initially limited until June 30, 2024. An extension is considered. Remuneration will be paid up to pay grade E13 TV-L if the formal requirements are met.
 

The position

You will support the department's ongoing research projects with user-centered software development. These projects currently include, among others, a mobile, playfully designed app that fosters ecological awareness in children, a VR-supported learning environment for training cognitive functions in the context of neurodiversity, as well as a desktop application for supporting focused learning and working in Higher Education and at the workplace. To optimize users' experiences, you will develop and implement adaptive system functionalities based on machine learning.

You will also be involved in project-related publications and present the emerging technologies at events, exhibitions, and conferences. Additionally, you will support maintaining and operating the department's technical infrastructure.

Requirements

Prerequisite for employment is a completed university degree (bachelor, master, or diploma) with a relevant technical background, e.g., computer science, media informatics, software technology, game design, human-computer interaction, cognitive science, or a similar focus.

Extensive skills and experience in software development in Unity / C# and Python are mandatory. Knowledge of PyQt5 and common frameworks in machine learning (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow or Keras) as well as user-centered design is also desirable.

We further expect the willingness to collaborate across disciplines and participate in outreach activities (e.g., Science Day, Action Days, exhibitions). In addition to native German language skills, solid English language skills (min. B2) are required for collaboration in the international department team and participation in project-related publications.
