AI Ethics and Societal Dialogue (f/m/d)

The Public Advisory Board is a unique honorary body with representatives from academia and civil society, focusing on the ethical and societal aspects of AI and AI research. The Board has a double commitment: to facilitate that AI researchers are aware of and able to effectively participate in the dialogue between science and society; and to consider the conditions and practices for involving civil society in the current technology-driven societal change. With an interdisciplinary focus, the Board seeks to recognize, critically discuss and evaluate the effects of AI within the societal and political context.
The position for AI Ethics and Societal Dialogue requires effective coordination skills as well as a sound understanding of both science and communication.
YOUR MISSION
- Close cooperation with the Public Advisory Board; preparation and follow-up of the meetings;
- Networking with researchers and start-ups within Cyber Valley; cooperation with the team of Cyber Valley Public Engagement; development, coordination and implementation of internal workshops on relevant, current and critical topics for the members of Cyber Valley, in cooperation with the Public Advisory Board;
- Development of innovative forms for exchange with members of the civil society (taking into account the recommendations of the Bürgerrat – citizen assembly – on “KI und Freiheit”);
- Networking with ethical and social AI research within Tübingen, within Germany and internationally to make social and ethical research on AI visible;
- Competences in and research on societal effects of future AI systems as well as infrastructural aspects (data management); addressing current topics in Cyber Valley and current social issues;
- If required: policy advice;
- Organization of events (together with event management).
YOUR PROFILE
- Postdoc or doctoral candidate in relevant subject areas (philosophy, social sciences or human sciences).
- Thorough knowledge of the questions and different approaches of AI ethics;
- Basic understanding of computer science, its current and future developments;
- Excellence in research and competences in methodological issues of interdisciplinary ethics, networking and organization;
- Interest in science communication;
- Very good command of German and English.

Contract and salaries are based on qualifications and previous professional experience according to public guidelines (Tarifvertrag für den öffentlichen Dienst der Länder; TV-L).
