Research assistant (f/m/d)
How can we tailor learning situations to the learners in the best possible way and help them to achieve their educational goals in the long term? In the Department of Teaching and Learning with Intelligent Systems at the Institute of Educational Science at the University of Stuttgart, we combine educational theories with psychological methods and algorithms from artificial intelligence to answer this question. Our resulting intelligent educational technologies can adapt to the learners and their contexts, and thus provide them with optimal support.
We are currently looking for scientific support and therefore offer a position as
Research assistant (f/m/d)
to the extent of 75-100% limited until December 31, 2022. An extension is considered depending on the availability of external funding. The remuneration will be in accordance with E13 TV-L (if the formal requirements are fulfilled).
The position
The position focuses on the development of a mobile app to promote environmental awareness in the school context. Software development will be conducted in Unity and should ensure compatibility with both Android and iOS. In the app, students will interact with virtual wild bee characters and complete various mini games. Machine learning algorithms will be used to ensure the adaptive functionality of the app and the included features (e.g., content units, knowledge tests, reflection prompts, point-based levels, and badges). A simple web interface should assist supervising teachers in administrating the mini games in the app. The research is conducted in collaboration with the Chemnitz University of Technology (Prof. Dr. Günter Daniel Rey).

In addition, solid experiences with Unity, the development of mobile apps (iOS and/or Android) and agile software development practices are required. Experiences with web development and the application of machine learning methods are an additional Plus.
Furthermore, knowledge in user-centered software development, the willingness for interdisciplinary cooperation and participation in the PR activities of the department are desirable. We also appreciate first experiences in teaching or interest in acquiring related experience.
Solid English language skills (at least C1 level) are required for working in our international team and the preparation of publications.
What we offer
